Silver is a metal. It is supposed to feel hard. Here, it almost looks like fabric. The front of this one-of-a-kind ring is intensely texturised: porous, stringy, almost resembling lumps of cotton and threads that got tangled together, turning rigid silver into something that appears unexpectedly soft. Chromatically, a pale white finish exaggerates the embossed surface, while a smooth black stone cuts through it in sharp contrast. However, eveything falls still when the ring is fipped to the reverse. The texture disappears into highly polished silver — hard, smooth and reflective again. The ring is built around these small contradictions: rough and polished, white and black, soft- looking and rigid. They are mixed together much like the ingredients of a cocktail — a connection that comes naturally from the designer’s background behind the bar. For xx.y..q.ii, cocktail jewellery is less about dressing for an occasion and more about the act of mixing itself: materials, textures and ideas that shouldn't necessarily belong together, but somehow do. The result is cocktail jewellery reimagined for ordinary life.
